Sockets to aid knee stability

Sockets to aid knee stability

There are a number of different socket solutions for transtibial amputees each with their own characteristics. If you have an unstable knee we are able to offer you a range of socket solutions which will aid and improve your stability. Increased stability will then help to improve your confidence and ability to trust your prosthesis thus increasing your mobility and activity levels.

Two socket styles which particularly support medial/lateral knee instability are the supracondylar and supracondylar-suprapatella sockets.

Supracondylar

The supracondylar socket is a patella tendon bearing socket with a raised trim line on the medial and lateral sides. The trim line is raised to encapsulate the condyles of the femur thus helping to control the movement at the knee joint.

Supracondylar-suprapatella

In addition to the raised medial/lateral trim lines found on the supracondylar socket the supracondylar-suprapatella socket raises the trim line over the patella. This can also help to limit knee extension if required.
